Our Story
Andy Gorstein founded The Blind Spot in 1987 after seeing an opportunity to create a business dedicated to custom window coverings. His connection to the industry began much earlier through his family’s business, where he learned the trade and developed an appreciation for quality products and attentive customer service.
The family history dates back to 1943, when Andy’s grandfather opened B & A Glass and Shade Co. in New York City. The business sold shades, mirrors, wallpaper, hardware, and carpeting. Andy’s father Norman, later became involved after the company relocated to Englewood, New Jersey.
Those experiences influenced Andy’s vision for The Blind Spot. He wanted to focus on custom window coverings while keeping pricing competitive and service personal. Our mobile showroom became a central part of that approach, bringing products directly to homeowners instead of relying on a traditional retail location.
A Fourth-Generation Family Business
Our family has been involved in the window covering industry since 1943. That history has given us decades of hands-on experience with the products, installation process, and customer relationships that come with this work.
Today, Andy works alongside his son Jack, who joined the business full time. Together, they continue a fourth-generation family tradition in the industry.
