About Us

My name is Andy Gorstein. In 1943, my Grandfather began a venture called B & A Glass and Shade Co. in NYC on Amsterdam Avenue. His store sold shades, mirrors, wallpaper, hardware, and carpeting. My father Norman joined the business in 1964 when it relocated to Englewood, New Jersey.

Having spent most of my childhood observing and learning about window coverings, it was only natural for me to get involved full-time. I soon realized there was a great need for a business that specialized in custom window coverings specifically, at great discount prices. In 1987, I began what is now called The Blind Spot.

My business is conducted out of my "Showroom on Wheels," keeping my expenses to a minimum and allowing me to produce a final price for my clients that is very competitive without overhead.

At "The Blind Spot" customer service is the top priority. As the owner, I am your experienced consultant and your expert installer. If you ever need to reach me for any reason, I'm just a phone call or email away. You will receive a prompt, personal response, directly from me, addressing your inquiry.

With the addition of my son Jack helping me in the summer months, The Blind Spot is proudly a fourth-generation business. I carry the complete Hunter Douglas line of products, including the exclusive Alustra line. I solely sell Hunter Douglas window coverings, which provides me with better pricing from the manufacturer. In turn, this allows me to give better pricing to you.

Call me for a free consultation. I'll bring my state of the art mobile showroom to your home or office and demonstrate fully functioning shades, both motorized and manual, in our beautiful showroom atmosphere.

In 1942, my great grandfather, Al, began a company called B&A Glass and Shade Company in NYC on Amsterdam Avenue. Following a relocation of the storefront to Englewood, NJ in 1963, my grandfather, Norman, joined the company, in turn making it an official family business. After spending a majority of his childhood surrounded by the trade of window coverings, my father, Andrew, opened up his own iteration of the company. The Blind Spot began operation in 1987 and set out to provide high quality, long lasting window treatments at aggressively discounted prices.

Fast forward to 2024, I’ve set out to expand The Blind Spot to Central Jersey, officially making our family business four generations. After working under my father throughout my childhood, I decided to get my college education at Stockton University, graduating in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in Business Marketing. Granted, I could’ve forgone college and jumped right into the family business, but I was eager to learn the knowledge necessary to not only sustain the family business, but elevate it as well. Using what I’ve learned over my 10+ years of working for the Blind Spot and 4 years of business courses in college, I look forward to passing on my knowledge to all my future potential consumers.

While my business model may not follow the traditional path, my father and I found that sometimes breaking the mold and being different is the true key to standing out and providing service that cannot be found anywhere else. You won’t find me standing behind a desk inside of a brick-and-mortar storefront. Instead, you’ll find me inside one of our state-of-the-art mobile showrooms, doing my best to provide exemplary service from our initial consultation throughout the entirety of our business together to the final product installation. Due to our mobile approach, I am able to keep overhead and operating costs at a minimum, allowing myself to provide you with unbeatable discounted prices.

At The Blind Spot, customer service has always and will always be at the forefront of our company. I take pride in being the consultant and salesman for each potential opportunity presented, as well as being the final installer for each job. From start to finish, you will deal solely with myself, creating a personable experience and eliminating any guesswork throughout the process. We strive to provide you with a shopping/installation experience unlike any other and I am always here to answer any questions or concerns you might have.
